Dr. Joseph McKinlay is a board-certified dermatologist and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology with over 35 years of medical experience. He graduated summa cum laude from Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. After completing an internship in Internal Medicine at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, he trained at the Naval Aerospace Medicine Institute in Pensacola, Florida. Dr. McKinlay served as a Naval Flight Surgeon with Marine Attack Squadron (VMA)-223, an AV-8B Harrier squadron, and later as the senior flight surgeon for Marine Aircraft Group 14 in North Carolina. Additionally, he supported space shuttle launches as a NASA-trained flight surgeon.

Dr. McKinlay completed his residency in Dermatology at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego before serving as Chief of the Dermatology Department at the Naval Medical Clinic, Pearl Harbor. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed dermatology journals and presented on various topics at international dermatology conferences.

For over 25 years, Dr. McKinlay has practiced dermatology at his downtown Honolulu office, located at 1003 Bishop Street, Suite 380. He is also an assistant professor at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, where he mentors medical students and residents. Recognized for his expertise, Dr. McKinlay has consistently been featured as one of Honolulu’s top doctors in Honolulu Magazine and Modern Luxury Hawaii Magazine. He is also a recipient of the Compassionate Doctor Award and is highly regarded by patients and colleagues for his skill in treating complex skin conditions.

Dr. McKinlay enjoys outdoor activities with his wife, three children, and their dog Apollo. He is an avid fisherman, diver, and surfer.
